Krav Maga, for one, is a lousy martial art but AN EXCELLENT ZERO DISTANCE Fighting system.
What's the difference be...
Injuries take us down mentally and constraint us physically. We must not give in, there are plenty of ways to keep up our routines and keep developing action capacity and skill!
In self-defense and martial arts we train a lot of action capacity thinking that it is skill. Turn it to skill with these few simple exercises!
The saying that there are no rules in self-defense might distract us from what is effective and what is necessary. The subject is not simple but we'll have to simplify it and integrate it into the training. Ready how!
Competitions don't make a difference, it's all about how game-like your training is.
When everything is BS, then what to do!
Just like we have former world champions, we have former black belts. A lot of times we hear people stating that they have completed their black belt in this and this martial art or system. The view of "completing" doesn't sit well in martial arts or self-defense, since the level needs to be demonstrated suddenly and unprepared.
Just as athletes winning the world championships. It is a one-time occasion unless he/she can stay at the head of the game and renew it. Once you stop maintaining the level, stop using the title, or add "former" in front of it😎.

Learning how to move, doesn't work well in blocks, it needs variability. Think of the time when we first learn how to stand up, then walk (or run😂) and we fall. Often. Then it's getting up again and off we go. This is very obvious to us, but then we take it to the self-defense training and we start training the movement piece by piece. Why? Because of the tradition of course. Well, if the tradition isn't helping you to learn, stop doing it and try something new. So try this!
Slowly is sloppy, slow motion has tension and all the aspects of self-defense reality!
Variability, using feasible constraints and creating invitations to succeed! That's where the good skill acceleration is built from!
Time is the most valuable asset that we have. What ever we're spending it on, must be worthwhile. There are few key mistakes that are very much present in self-defense training. These are so subtle that we miss them most of the time. Read this, try the fixes and give me feedback how it went!
In any skill, the key element is development and fine-tuning. Never Ready, just better. In this blog I share my thoughts after 5th Dan graduation in Krav Maga.
May the skill be with you, is a book about accelerated skill acquisition in self-defense. Taking full advantage of the constraints-led approach in the self-defense context. Meanwhile check out www.kravmagacoach.com training services, so you will get good at the right things immediately!
Training for the reality needs the studying of reality to actually work. Getting good at dealing with stressful situations requires to train under stress. Learning to deal with the problems at hand requires practicing, defining and refining the movement and training, adapting those movements to the changing situation. This is the fact in every aspect of life. In self-defense it makes all the difference.
